Testimonials:
"Siri was my doula on very short notice but that didn't affect her complete commitment to my comfort and success of a safe and natural delivery. The moment I met her I felt a connection. She was warm and loving, like we had been friends for years. Because my husband was so involved, she ended up taking pictures, handing me water and at one point she held my arms to help me get leverage while I pushed- but I could tell she was willing to do anything. I remember looking at her eyes in the thick of labor and feeling comforted. If a doula can do that, then she's a perfect doula, and Siri did just that for me.
Shortly after the birth she talked me through what the next 48 hours would be like- nursing, sleeping, baby's bowl movements, etc., and promised to visit in a couple days (if I was up to it). I welcomed the visit and received even more comfort and confidence when she came to check on me a few days later.
She brought with her different materials that helped me be a little more educated regarding feedings and newborn care. She even wrote my birth story from her perspective and brought a typed copy for us.
Through all of this she was also very supportive and respectful to my husband and his role as my coach/partner in labor. He loved her as much as I did!
I recommend Siri a million times over and count myself so blessed to have had her as my doula."

What the research says:
Given the clear benefits and no known risks associated with intrapartum support, every effort should be made to ensure all labouring women receive support, not only from those close to them but also from specially trained caregivers. This support should include continuous presence, the provision of hands-on comfort, and encouragement. Hodnett, E.D. Support from caregivers during childbirth (Cochrane Review) in Cochrane Library, Issue 2. Oxford Update Software, 1998. Updated Quarterly.
Professionals have paid much attention to innovative technology and the many new options for monitoring and managing labor. While the technology is important, it can become so prominent that clinicians ignore both the natural aspects of labor and the non-technical needs of women in labor… Changes that support the patient in labor and reinforce the natural, physiologic process….
